December can be a stressful and demanding month, here are our 5 survival tips to help you enjoy and make the most of your festive season.
1. Meditate for 10 minutes every day
At Christmas time, we can find ourselves feeling stressed and overwhelmed, often feeling pulled in many directions between family, friends and work. To balance life out again it’s important to step away from our busy lives and find 10 minutes every day to meditate.
Remember to breathe! When we are caught up in the moment and stressed we take small shallow breaths, increasing our tension and stress levels. Try to slow your breath down with deep abdominal breathing.
3. Go for a walk
Try to get out and go for a walk in nature. Not only is it good for your heart and fitness levels, but it has measurable mental benefits and it has been proven to improve personal wellbeing and happiness.
4. Drink ginger tea
At this time of year it’s important to stay warm. In South Korea ginger tea is often served to provide warmth because of its ‘yang’/fire qualities. Ginger tea also brings with it a host of powerful health benefits – alleviating stomach pain, improved circulation and digestion, reduced arthritic inflammation, as well as reducing stress.
5. Practice mindfulness
Sometimes meeting up with family and old friends can result in the same tired-old conversations. Try to pay full attention to what they are saying rather than thinking of something else or how you are going to respond. You will find, the dynamic of the conversation changes and you start to enjoy listening.
At this time of year, food is often plentiful and it’s the perfect time to reconnect with your senses and really enjoy the moment. This is being mindful.
